The libri memorialium from the Bologna State Archives were written by notaries and they contain ballate and rhymes which are among the earliest poetry in the vernacular from Italy such as the ones contained in the manuscript Vaticano Latino 3793. Most of these poems were intended to be sung and played and in fact, even if are handed down to us in manuscripts without musical notation, they still have textual indications about their musical forms. Murmur Mori set these fundamental early Italian lyrics to music using medieval instruments, merging the Italian folk music heritage together with the medieval manuscript sources of secular music, to rediscover their sound and avoid them to be merely confined in literary studies. The music here presented focuses on jongleur poetry of the 13th and 14th centuries and on the musical form of the ballata. Chants of love, satire and to dance to.
The 16 pages booklet have an introduction by prof. Tito Saffioti.

Kyrie...

Excellent medieval folk, IGR, & those with ears to hear. I love the sense of mysticism and deep, introspective ponder this album conveys, & the honest down-to-earth folky lyrics. Simply wonderful yet soulfully rich. Highlights for me are tracks 2, 5, 6, & 12. IGR truly capture what I feel is an authentic sense of a medieval bard at a woodland rill pondering the mysteries of life. Highly recommended. 8.5+/10. Alrihkh

This might be my favourite of Heilung. They've improved a bit on their later releases but their debut is still much meaner, and darker. Maria's amazing voice obviously steals the show but I also quite like Kai's too, especially on the live performance. In fact I'd say get LIFA over this IMO.
The spoken word bits are really cool to hear proto-germanic in use but for relistening purposes they are going to be a bit obtrusive. Nevertheless the proper music here is on continual repeat for me. Rabbit
